Businesses in Fresno, Madera and Mariposa counties have made it clear that we must improve the skill set of students entering our local job market. The State Center Consortium’s objective is to answer this need by working with businesses to create an active educational partnership.
The goal is to bring education into closer alignment with the needs of today’s businesses. The Consortium recognizes that businesses want employees who can respond quickly and effectively to changes in technology and in organizational structures. Students can develop these competitive skills by participating in the Consortium’s full range of lifelong learning opportunities.
The Workforce of the Future Elevating the skills of our local labor market begins with college and career preparation as early as elementary school. Programs developed by the Consortium
are designed to help students identify their life’s interests, significantly |

increase their level of academic achievement,
experience onsite job activities, and enter into careers which can successfully fulfill
their expectations.
We’re In It Together
Business participation in the Consortium is a major factor in promoting student success. Businesses must get involved in order to give students the real life workplace experiences that bring meaning to their education. Students have to meet the cook, the cop and the CEO. Business partnerships give students a chance to jump off the textbook page into the practical world of day-to-day business.
Before they can focus on career options, students need to see the breadth and depth of opportunities available to them. These opportunities are increased through academic achievement. The end result will be an educated and highly-skilled workforce that will enable our region to
increase economic prosperity.
