Nationally, more than 460,00 establishments make up the health services industry, all varying greatly in size, staffing, and organization. Health services is one of the largest employers in the United States, with about 11.3 million jobs. although hospitals comprise less than 2% of all private health services establishments, they employ nearly 40% of all health-related workers. Workers in health careers are expected to continue to be in high demand, with 40% of the projected fastest growing occupations related to the health industry.
